[edit] Protecting

I'll leave this one for a little bit; it's only been briefly unprotected, and as it stands there has only been 2 reverts so far. My advice is to not revert yourself as well - even if you fell you are in the right and the others are wrong - and to concentrate on resolving issues on the talk page. If this can't be done, there is always the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution process. --Robdurbar 08:53, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unnecessary Edits on Majestic Kambhoji

Hi

I think you are being unnecessary sensitive and making uncalled for changes in the articles for no valid reasons (For instance on Kambhoji). And the nomenclature Majestic Kambhoji is not POV. Other noted Musicologists also call Kamboji as Majestic Raga because it's definitely so.

For Instance, P P Narayanaswami remarks on Kambhoji: A major rAgam that enjoys the same status as those of the “big four” meLams, tODi, kharaharapriya, sha”nkarAbharaNam, and kalyANi. KAmbhoji gives ample scope for detailed AlApana. Therefore, it is well suited for rendering a major k.rti, or an elaborate pallavi exposition, both of which call for a detailed improvisation. It lends itself to excellent tAnam renditions. It can be sung in any tempo. It is a “varnana pradAna “ and a tristhAyi” rAgam. Being a popular rAgam, all sorts of compositions exist in kAmbhOji. Every composer has snatched an opportunity to contribute to this rAgam. In essence it is indeed a majestic rAgam! (See Majestic Kambhoji, by P P Narayanaswami [1])

Hope you will stop unnecassirly editing the articles.

Sze cavalry01 03:01, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi

If you find other Ragas qualified as Majestic, let it be so too. It does not hurt anybody. Since Kambhoji has been qualified as Majestic, Royal, noble etc (wheter for subjectve reasons or otherwise) by many Musuicologists, the Majestic qualifier is therefore not out of place and should stand. That only means that Kambhoji is indeed ragarded as such by the Sangit maestros. Hence it is not out of place to refer to the Raga as such in Wikipedia if the Raga finds similar mention in other sites also.

[edit] Regarding Merger of Tamil Martial Arts

Hi,

Thank you for your suggestion. However, it would not be necessary since Tamil Martial Arts itself has an array of empty hand and weapons fighting arts. In Kerala, there are many empty hand and weapons fighting techniques of its own. Therefore it would be good to leave Tami Martial arts by itself, but also to keep it as a See Also in the Dravidian Martial Arts section. Also, I plan to expand Dravidian Martial arts section to includ Andra Pradesh and Karnataka. It would be great to find the fighting techniques of those states as well. I have heard that there is a Silambam style of art in Karnataka and Andra Pradesh with its own names. As soon as I find out more info on those arts it will be added to the Dravidian Martial Arts page. Much regards.

Note from Editor's Desk
  • Welcome. It has been weeks and months since the idea of newsletter was mooted among the WikiProject India Community. This would be our first full-fledged edition of our Newsletter, and we'd like to start by saying we are very happy to have you among us.
  • This is your newsletter, and we want you to be part of it as well. Provide us with news tips here. It can be anything related to the project, from discussions to calls for help, and other interesting stuff within our community. If you have received or given any barnstars recently, do let us know.

  • Cartography Department (Shortcut:WP:INMAP): The Department of Cartography within the WikiProject India is a group of wikipedians who work on providing quality maps related to India. Their contributions gain more significance as we try to provide more information on places, districts and states of India. As a thumb rule, maps serve better if they are in SVG format. The location maps by the cartography department has helped us include location information based on latitudes and longitudes for a give place within India. The Indian Roadways map is a featured image, one amongst the few best road maps in the world. Still, there is more work to be done. There are 604 districts in India (see List of districts of India), and each district page needs a map of that district. You can help too. Contact the Cartography Department to learn how you can help in making the best maps in Wikipedia to be India-related!

[edit] Regarding My Article on Sanskrit

Hi Kris,
I am Bsskchaitanya and was the author of the article in talk page of Sanskrit on which you have commented. Some person wrote about sanskrit underestimating it. So, i wrote an explanation for him against his view.

Anyway, I am ardent fan of sanskrit even from childhood. But as i started gathering knowledge about it in terms of history, language and literature. I understood that, it was also a normal language but grown into a great powerful language in due course of time.

U specified some people as grammarians, but i prefer to call them as linguists. There were many grammar trditions existed before panini. Even i can give their references (u can refer a book in telugu named "Laghu Siddanta Kaumudi" for all the history before Panini). But Panini was the person who developed structural, descriptive and generative linguistics in sanskrit. He was the turning point in the history of sanskrit.

Nobody knows what was the exact meaning of vedas. Many times i asked some vedic pandits what was the meaning of their chants, the answer in negative.

A classical example will be,

  • Take the starting verse of Rigveda, Agnimīlé purohitam. We find different interpretations from different people.
  • But ask what is the meaning of any sentences in literature after Panini, we will really enjoy the beauty of sanskrit.

I can say only one thing my brother. you wrote about me that some troll, etc., i dont have any bad feeling. Because, The ultimate reality has no language, no qualities. It is great. As my guru Swami Vivekananda, an advaita vedantin told, "It is sin to say a human sinner".

U are welcome to visit my page and view my articles. Have a nice time, Brother, Take care.

I believe in only in truth and nothing Else

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

  • Welcome to the December 2006 edition of our newsletter. Time flies past like matter into the black hole. It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. [edit] Take heart

Hi Kris, I feel really sad that you have to endure what you're going through. Please take heart. Wikipedia is a community of million plus human beings and there are bound to be 'nuts' roaming around. I dont know which 'nut' you may have bumped into, causing you so much distress, but I also keep bumping into such people on wikipedia. Any time we come across such people, far from losing heart, we should resolve to weed out such people and protect the fair name and purpose of wikipedia. Letting such people get under your skin will only be playing straight into their hands. I request you to make a conscious effort not to let such 'nuts' bother you and to return with renewed vigor and purpose. Wikipedia sorely needs and deserves more editors like you and less of the nuts. Sarvagnya 20:27, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 1 - January 2007

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([6]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [7]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

--Dralansun (talk) 15:58, 1 January 2008 (UTC)==Notability of Lalita Dasar==

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Lalita Dasar, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Lalita Dasar seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Lalita Dasar, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot 05:32, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Chembaistamp.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Chembaistamp.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:54, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
