The college started functioning from 1996 at a temporary location in valasaravakkam in the suburbs of Chennai. Sairam moved to a sprawling 1 square kilometre campus at Saileo Nagar,West Tambaram Chennai in 1998. The college is currently situated in a verdant peaceful greenery which proves to be an ideal learning environment.

Since its inception, the college maintains a consistent academic track record. Several students have been awarded university gold medals for their academic performances. Sri Sai Ram Engineering College has an enviable placement facility that is easily one of the best in the city.The number of students placed in the 2008 batch was 94%.
The students participate in many extra and co-curricular activities and have proved their mettle in various symposiums throughout the state. Our music troupe, Sai Shruti is among the forerunners in a nationally televised variant of American Idol.The college boasts of an excellent sports complex with a world class basketball court.The college gives importance to discipline as one of the stepping stones of success.Several floor supervisors monitor the college to prevent any hazing.
