Sri Karan Narendra College of Agriculture

Shri Karan Narendra college of Agriculture in Jobner, Rajasthan , India (popularly known as S K N College of Agriculture) is the first agricultural college of the Rajasthan. The S K N College of Agriculture, Jobner is the campus college of Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner.

Late Rawal Karan Singh of Jobner had inspired by Swami Dayanand Saraswati and established Anglo-Vedic High School in the year 1893. His son Rawal Narendra Singh upgraded the school to Shri Karan Narendra College of Agriculture or simply SKN College of Agriculture in the year of Indian independence, July 1947. At the time of creation this was the only institute devoted to agricultural education in the state of Rajasthan in India. At present it has 15 departments and offer B.Sc.(Ag.) Hons, M.Sc.(Ag.) in 9 and Ph.D in 7 subjects. The faculty is 100 strong and the non-teaching faculty is 400 strong. The student enrollment is about 400. The library of this college established in 1947, is attached to present extension department, it has total collection of 42000 books and journals ,it has database collections like CAB /AGRIS /AGRICOLA /PGRABST and other audio visual CD. After 1996 Dr K M Krishna Assistant Librarian, Jewel of India has taken all possible efforts to improve and modernise the library by adding new infrastructures and new services to library In 2004 Internet-CDROM unit has been started for all students and staff. It started with dial up network to ERNET to WIFI system now . The other added units are reprographic, audio visual, Book-Bank unit ,periodical unit ,technical unit ,old stack unit for books and journals, CCTV system etc of the library. He has been awarded jewel of India eminent citizen award in 2006 for outstanding contributions in library services.

B.Sc. (Ag.) Hons

Admission to B.Sc (Ag.) Hons Part-I is done through Joint Entrance Test (JET) conducted either by the Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner or Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur. The minimum eligibility for a candidate to appear in the JET is that the candidate must have passed 12th of the 10+2 (Academic) scheme of examination with Agriculture/Science groups.

The college imparts training in basic at UG level as well as scientific skills, by PG level (M.Sc.(Ag.), Ph.D) with a view to prepare a student career directly and indirectly concerned with the uplifment of agricultural community.
