[edit] Cleanup

Hi! The {{cleanup}} template is a pretty general notice that could mean any number of things; luckily, though, it's usually apparent what that is. The notice means that, for some reason, the article is not up to encyclopedia quality. It could just need copyediting, but more often than not it needs fixups in layout, style, tone, organization, etc. There are more specific templates that could have been used, such as {{cleanup-context}}, {{cleanup-copyedit}}, {{cleanup-tone}}, and {{wikify}}, but a lot of the time editors will just put {{cleanup}} on the page (especially if it needs a bunch of those things). If it's not obvious what is needed, check the article's talk page and see if someone has mentioned the article's problems. After you have cleaned up the article as much as you think was needed, delete the "{{cleanup}}" from the top of the page.

[edit] Stubs

There are no hard or fast rules as to how long an article has to be before it's no longer a stub, so it's a fairly subjective decision as to when to remove the stub template. Sometimes a semi-short article may not be a stub if it contains just about all the information there is to be had and can't really be substantially expanded. More stub info is at Wikipedia:Stub.

In the case of The Biggest Loser, the article is definitely more informative now then before you had edited it, which is great. But right now I would probably leave the stub template on, because even though the page looks longer than most stubs, that is due to the tables. If you take out the tables, there are only a couple of paragraphs of verbage. So, it's well on its way to not being a stub, but I think there is still lots of room for expansion. The tables are great, by the way. But the meat of any article is the text. Just a few ideas for expansion: Who created the show? How did they get the idea? Any dramatic moments on the show? Have there been any critics of the show? Did the contestants keep the weight off? HollyAm 23:34, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

Hello, good work on The Gambia at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and thanks for the contribution. However, you forgot to add any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. What websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to The Gambia at the 2000 Summer Olympics? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? Thanks for writing up the very complete Melkite Greek-Catholic Church page. However I notice a discrepancy. You make reference to "Maximos IV Sayegh (1846–1878)" citing a story about Gregory II, except that Maximos IV reigned from 1947-1967, as suggested by your discussion of him and Vatican II. I hesitate just to change the dates, because you may be confusing him for someone else (though none of the patriarchs had that reign, and besides, it overlaps with Gregory). Welcome, Sreed1234/Archive:1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

The template looks pretty good, but don't forget that having some text for the lead into the article is a good thing. I would say use it in addition to the existing text rather than a replacement (and definitely the existing text on almost all the pages needs some heavy expanstion). -- Jonel | Speak 21:30, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Sorry to harp on this but i am now sure that the IAAF are incorrect about that time being 200m flat. The table below outlines the data for Colin jackson (WR in 110mH) and Kevin Young (WR 400mH). Their times for the 200mH are comparable to the García 200m flat time cited by the IAAF. Is there a second source for this time? I have done a cursory search but found nothing.

Can you please turn category sorting off? For soccer player profiles, there is a definite structure on how the categories are listed, such as the teams the player played on are listed in chronological order, not alphabetical. Hi! Thank you for creating the articles on Argentina and Bermuda. However, I think you ought to be a bit careful with creating those pages based on the Torino 2006 site yet - I know for a fact that a lot of Norwegian and Dutch athletes that are listed have not been selected by the Norwegian Olympic Committee, so I guess this could be the fact for other countries, too. Oh, I had already done that infobox the day before you made that! :o\ (See {{Olympic Record}}) Ahh well, I updated yours so that the olympic rings picture meshes better with the background color. I also added a {{MedalDisqualified}}, because I have seen this on rare occasions where a medal was taken away, and I believe this is significant. I wanted to add it to the talk pages, but first, I wanted to clear it through you...
As for my own {{Olympic Record}} template, should I just point it to these ones here? Or send them off to TfD? There are only several articles that use it so far, so it's not a big deal. Let me know. tiZom(the man) 06:42, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Oh, hey, sorry, didn't see that you'd made that one. My only thing is that Olympic record (btw, holy cripes does that need more info...) has a meaning similar to world record, and therefore having it as a header for the box might be confusing (perhaps just "Olympic medals" might work?). But the background color definitely looks better. And the Disqualified one is nice for these people (at least, the ones who won medals before being caught). I suggest redirects for the duplicate templates, as that's less work than TfDing them ;) but do whatever you feel should be done with them. -- Jonel | Speak 03:33, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
The only thing that I don't like is the red color of the disqualified box. The rest of the colors are jewel tones and the bright red doesn't match the style of those. Sue Anne 06:03, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey I noticed you had an idea for the Olympic Medal Record box - and I like it a lot. I also had problems with that bright red box (although, if an olympian is cheating at the olympics, then I think he might deserve something so blaring!) But anyway, I'm changing it to pink. I think that the country flag should be listed somewhere on the page of each athlete, don't you? It really would help draw a focus to the olympian's nationality, and I think that's important here. I just don't know where to put it :o\ I was thinking about somewhere in the medal infobox, but I can't think of where it might look good - at the top, in-line with each medal, etc. Any ideas? tiZom(2¢) 21:19, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I think that would make it look a bit cluttered. Since these boxes are designed to use on an athletes page wouldn't their nationality be obvious? David D. (Talk) 21:30, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I guess I come from the school that if nationality is really important in the case of olympians, then it should be instantly recognizable on their pages. And I don't want to add another parameter (namely, the country flag) after I've gone through them all and converted them to the infobox. Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
