Srednekansky District

Srednekansky District (Russian: Среднека́нский райо́н) is a district (raion) in Magadan Oblast, Russia. Its administrative center is the work settlement of Seymchan. Area: 91,818.35 km².[1] District's population: 5,461 (2002 Census);).[2] 16,594 (1989 Census).

The district borders with the following areas: [1][3]

  • Sakha Republic in the north and north-west;
  • Bilibinsky District of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and Severo-Evensky District of Magandan Oblast in the north-east;
  • Omsukchansky District of Magandan Oblast in the east;
  • Khasynsky District of Magandan Oblast in the south;
  • Yagodinsky District of Magandan Oblast in the south-west;
  • Susumansky District of Magandan Oblast in the west.

The main industries of the district are gold, silver, tin, cobalt, bismuth, wolfram, lead, zinc, and coal mining. In addition, under the protection of the mountain ranges, the area in the valley of Kolyma River lends itself for agricultural production.
