Talk:Squidoo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is obviously an advert/spam. Marked for deletion.

THIS IS SPAMOLA CRAP and a FAILED attempt at trying to be the millionth article. Should be removed immediately!

I've undeleted this since it doesn't seem like a candidate for speedy deletion to me. It's not written like an advert, it was created by a genuine user with many other edits, and it's a notable website (Alexa rank over 4000). Angela. 23:23, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Angela. Yes, I was going for one million; however, I wasn't trying to cause controversy. Alex Krupp 00:34, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

It WAS written like an ad, but I deleted that part. Mocheeze 23:30, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FAILED ATTEMPT AT ONE MILLIONTH ARTICLE!

Since number 999,999 was deleted, this was the millionth article!

Actually, there more were deleted afterwards and probably more will be deleted in the future, too. But it's the first article that became 1,000,000th that counts. bogdan 00:03, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
This honour actually belongs to Jordanhill railway station. --Slgrandson 00:17, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
  • I have a feeling that, if this had been #1000000, the WikiGods would have changed the timetables so that something less commercial won.--M@rēino 00:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Pretty transparent attempt at free advertising. Ziggur 00:36, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

To clarify, I created the article. While Squidoo is a company, I am not an employee and do not stand to profit. Alex Krupp 00:48, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Don't stand to profit... oh really? Isn't that their business model? Share half of their revenue (after expenses and 5% to charity) with their users... ;) Not that it really matters, it is a notable article and should be in wikipedia anyway. Do you have a lense? PaulC/T+ 02:13, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I am a Squidoo user. However, all of the money generated during the beta test is donated to charity. Alex Krupp 02:30, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Articles for deletion This article was nominated for deletion on 2 March 2006. The result of the discussion was keep.

[edit] WTH??

How come this is known as the 1,000,001st article it was created on October 10th? I don't understand, and I looked at it in March, and didn't see that prior history before. How was this accomplished? --Shultz IV 05:22, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

It was deleted and then recreated. Alex Krupp 13:56, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
I agree that it should be removed. If non-profit organizations like www.oondi.com, which is similar in concept, can't have an article on Wikipedia, neither should a commercially oriented company. Ken
If it's nonprofit, it ought to be "oondi.org" instead of implying commerciality with a .com address. *Dan T.* 12:14, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blacklist

Somebody delinked Squidoo because it's supposedly blacklisted, but is it really? I looked on the Spam blacklist page, and found only entries for particular paths within Squidoo, "inexpensive-wine" and "localphoneservice", that have apparently been spammed. No block that I can see exists for the entire domain. *Dan T.* 12:18, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

The whole domain is blacklisted, for some reason. I just tried to link to a Squidoo lens from a wikipedia article, and it didn't work. I'm unclear as to why it's blacklisted though - and I've said as much on the mediawiki blacklist talk page. Perhaps it can be sorted out - it's a hugely useful resource... Here's the discussion i've just started on the spam blacklist talk page. Drop by and comment if you feel strongly about the issue. Annihilatenow (talk) 09:56, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Fist of all there has been far too much abuse and evidence of spamming on this project to more than justification for the Squidoo.com blacklisting[1]. unfortunatley you have a conflict of interest with www.squidoo.com/ledzep_mothership/. Its self published lense by your company waytoblue.com. External links policy on Advertising and conflicts of interest states You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent.--Hu12 (talk) 13:59, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
There is hardly any justification for Squidoo.com's inclusion in the blacklist. For record, similar websites (such as everything2 and helium) do have proper URLs in their respective wikipedia entries. --Nafrinafri (talk) 18:18, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
The link should be in this page, irrespective of little details about who made or edited this wikipedia page, if someone comes looking for information on a website then a link should be included.172.189.205.55 (talk) 14:31, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Revenue up?

If the revenue is unknown, why does the infobox have a green "up" sign? Can I remove it? Kushal 16:55, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
