Squoval is a portmanteau of the terms and shapes "square" and "oval." The not quite oval, not quite square shape of a fingernail or toenail. "Essentially a conservative square with the length of a square nail but the softer edges of an oval" the term was coined in 1984 by Paula Gilmore, a prominent educator, according to Peters[1]. This style was popular in the 1990s, and is still a popular natural nail shape.
Squoval also refers to a style of haircut. Short hair can be cut near the neckline in "squoval" fashion at the corners near the shoulders.[citation needed]
The bicycle company Cervélo also uses the term in its sales literature to describe the cross sectional appearance of their R3 downtube.[citation needed]
