Sig
I happened to see your sig somewhere (I think on an open RfA), and noticed that the code could be tweaked some.
Here's your current sig (173 characters):
- SQLQuery me!
- <font style="background:#990000;color:#FFFFFF;border:2px solid #999999">SQL</font><font color="#999999">Query me!</font>
And here's your signature after I tweaked the code some (155 characters):
- SQLQuery me!
- <span style="color: #fff;background:#900;border:2px solid #999">SQL</span>Query me!
It looks (or at least, should look) the same, but gets rid of the font tags (which are bad), and slims down the code some. Just thought I'd drop you a line. :) EVula // talk // ☯ // 20:19, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- OOH! Thank you so much! :) I've updated / changed it to your version (with a minor tweak) SQLQuery me! 05:43, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Always happy to help out with sigs. :) One of the nice things about the current method is that it's easy to adding some spacing between the gray border and the white text (just add
padding: 1px
to the first span tag's style and voila, instant spacing). It's also syntactically correct, but I think that I'm about the only one on Wikipedia that cares about that. ;) EVula // talk // ☯ // 05:10, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Comments
Hi SQL. Thanks for having a look at the situation, but I'm a bit confused about your comments - you say that "No.57 may remove things from his talk page", but then say that the diffs of me removing the warning templates from my talk page is "Therefore... troubling indeed". Which is it?
Perhaps you would care to cast your eye over Talk:Bescot Stadium and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Stadium_names. Do you think User:B1atv is still entitled to put a POV-title tag on the article or am I correct in assessing the discussions to be in favour of non-sponsorship names (I counted eight for traditional names, 1 for sponsored names (User:B1atv) and 1 for sponsor names who seems to have become a neutral)? пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:17, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, the diffs, to me, seemed to illustrate mild talk page harassment, and, gaming 3rr on the part of the parties repeatedly placing the templates, which, was a bit troubling... I probably could have worded that better, and, most likely will in a moment (about to leave for work, however)... I tell ya what, I'll take a look at that article when I get back home. SQLQuery me! 21:22, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your support.

It seems to me that WP:IAR would apply to images like the above, can't see why anyone should have to jump through hoops to get rid of useless content. IvoShandor 03:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- I understand your concern, however, the reason of "Vanity Image", simply does not even remotely fit any of the criteria to speedy delete an image. You might want to try WP:IFD, instead (kinda like WP:AFD, but, for images). Drop me a line, if you need a hand with the IFD process.
- No thanks, I just came across the image and felt it had no place on Wikipedia, you obviously feel that it does. I don't have time to play encyclopedia. IvoShandor 15:57, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Care to reblock User:84.45.219.185? Our buddy User:Whitmorewolveyr seems unable to control himself. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 15:29, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it should be reblocked, maybe we should give the IP a chance, in case it gets re-assigned (I've no idea how long ENTANET IPs last for before someone else gets the IP). It's listed at Wikipedia:List of public terminal or wireless access point IP addresses so maybe we should err on the side of caution: other public terminal IPs have been blocked and unblocked hundreds of times for vandalism. If it was an open proxy, then it should have been blocked indefinitely, but if it's from a public PC/wireless access point, maybe we should be careful about blocks. That's my 0.02 cents. Thanks, --Solumeiras talk 18:02, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Question about a revert...
Hey, I noticed this: [1].... I was curious, how's that vandalism? Granted, I probably would have declined it, but, still they shouldn't be simply reverted, unless they're being used abusively... In that case, you'd want to protect the page, and slap an unblockabuse up top... SQLQuery me! 21:05, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry! I was reverting his vandalism to your talk page, and because he was impersonating you, you could say he tricked me into it! I didn't realise it was his talk page I was reverting. Argh! As an aside, will adding unblockprotected at the top alert an administrator to come and block the page? I'm not an admin myself, although I'm 'experienced' (you could say), and I wasn't aware that adding that template could be done by normal editors? Sock case you handled
Hiya dear, I was wondering if you would look into this new username, which I believe is a sockpuppet that you've dealt with before. User talk:MoreGunsInSchools, if you recall, had an RFCN for the username, and created the name User:Every Child Should Carry A Gun!) to influence the discussion. MoreGunsInSchools's contributions were focused on the article Frank Lasee, and now a new editor pops up, User:NoMoreGunsInSchoolz on the same article [2] [3]. I think it is a pretty safe bet that this is another sockpuppet of that user, so since you were the one that handled the issue earlier, I figured I'd bring this to you, so you could take any actions you see fit. Thanks! Ariel♥Gold 23:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, great catch! How'd you find him? :) I've indef blocked the user in question; I've absolutely no doubt, between the name, and the contribs, that it's the same user. Thank you, very much! :) SQLQuery me! 00:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Rangeblock idea
Regarding 84.45.219.185 (talk · contribs), I have a better suggestion - rather than a 3-year block, why not do a rangeblock instead?? The aforementioned IP is within the range 84.45.128.0/17 (talk · contribs), so if it was rangeblocked, it could stop him from IP-switching (which the vandal probably might do!) and won't cause too much collateral damage.
Maybe make the block expire in a week/fortnight or so, and that may well solve the problem. I did get a series of spam attacks on my wiki from this IP range, so blocked it and it stopped the problem. 84.45.219.185 wasn't the only guilty IP address! It seems you have to rangeblock to stop vandalism in this IP range... blocking one IP doesn't stop it! Thanks, --Solumeiras talk 23:03, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- That IP seems relatively stable... Plus, it's the only place I've seen issues from... Unfortunately, I'm not comfortable making a rangeblock, without evidence of massive and widespread disruption here, from the better part of the whole /17... (I'm actually not a huge fan of rangeblocks to begin with....) That being said, if someone else wanted to unblock that IP, and, range it, or, shorten it, I'd have absolutely no objections... Another possible sockpuppet
User:IntelligentVoter looks like yet another possible sockpuppet of User:MoreGunsInSchools. See the Frank Lasee article history and his contributions. Arthur 19:07, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've blocked the user indefinately, and, semi-protected the article for two weeks. Hopefully, that'll give us a break from the disruption for a while. Thanks, for keeping an eye out! SQLQuery me! 21:15, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I requested semi-protection on it yesterday, but was denied. I think getting a new sockpuppet every couple of days certainly calls for some kind of action. I actually got a 3RR warning from another admin over trying to comply with WP:BLP. Thanks again. Arthur 21:21, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

As you brought the sockpuppetry mess regarding this user to an end last time, could you have a look at this accusation which has been posted on my talk page, and offer your thoughts? As there are assorted bad-faith accusations flying around regarding me, I don't want to get directly involved (although the evidence looks overwhelming). — iridescent 00:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

SQLBot and WikiProject banners
I'm not sure the coding you're using, but would you take a look at WikiProjectBannerShell, and WikiProjectBanners? For instance, this edit really should have looked like this instead. Thanks! And if you ever need Bot help for projects like this, let me know - SatyrBot has been coded specifically for WikiProject banners. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:42, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

SxWiki question
Hello SQL,
I have encountered the same problem with the SxWiki library that I have encountered on my own -- do you have any idea what's causing this and how it can be avoided? Thanks in advance, Gutza T T+ 21:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Strange :) I ignore starttime as far as the user is concerned, but, I do capture it... Here's an example, of the $postData array:
Array ( [wpScrolltop] => [wpSection] => [wpEditToken] => (redacted)+\ [wpAutoSummary] => d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e [wpSummary] => Edit summary here [wpTextbox1] => New page data [wpSave] => Save page [wpStarttime] => 20071128043157 [wpEdittime] => 20071124071248 [wpMinoredit] => 0 )
- The regex I use to get it is: '/\<input type\=\\\'hidden\\\' value\=\"(.*)\" name\=\"wpStarttime\" \/\>/i'... I generally don't have it pass it on to the user however... just the server... HTH SQLQuery me! 04:35, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, then I must be doing something wrong, because my code still doesn't get wpStarttime and wpEdittime from the server, even when using your library. I'm using the library here: User:SQL/SxWiki/Source. My test code which does not work is this:
<?php include("SxWiki.php"); //Include framework $url = 'http://ro.wikipedia.org/w/'; //Set for the English Wikipedia $sxLgTA = sxLogin("VerifierBot",); //Log in $sxLgID = $sxLgTA[uid]; $sxLgT = $sxLgTA[token]; $maxlag = "5"; //Set maxlag to 5 $epm = setEPM(10); //set 10 edits per min. $r=sxPutPage("Wikipedia:WikiVerifier_Beta/Modifc%C4%83ri_neverificate", "test", 'foobar', 0); echo ($r?'yay':'nay')."\n"; ?>
I didn't include the password on purpose, but it is correct and the login works. At the end of the execution I get "yay", but nothing changes on Wikipedia. I added the following line just after the four preg_match statements in sxPutPage:
echo "starttime: {$starttime[1]}; edittime: {$edittime[1]}\n";
The output is "starttime: ; edittime:". Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? --Gutza T T+ 07:13, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Not as of yet, I'll be able to look at it more in depth a little later today, however... (no access to php right now) SQLQuery me! 14:54, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, much appreciated. If you want to test hands-on right on the same page I am, I'd be happy to provide you with a temporary password for that robot on the Romanian Wikipedia via e-mail. --Gutza T T+ 15:07, 28 November 2007 (UTC) >
- Hrm, I did what you did, and, here's the output I got:
sql@taurus:~/SxWiki$ php test_start.php Logged in as SQL starttime: 20071129031825; edittime: 20071129031507 yay
I did slightly modify your code, to run under my own user, and, to post to ro:Utilizator:SQL/Sandbox instead...
Might be a libcurl issue, what's this output for you:
<?php print_r(curl_version()); ?>
Another (probably better) idea: Did you copy the SxWiki source, from the edit page (here), or, the project page? I meant to mention, that wikipedia uses htmltidy, which screws up some code, when output.... and, it wrecked my regexes, especially the starttime / edittime ones, last time I synced from the page.... If you haven't already, try copying it over from the edit page (I'll get off my duff and start a SVN on sourceforge soon, so this won't be as much of an issue :)) Anyhow, hopefully, that helps :) SQLQuery me! 03:24, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I just deleted about 20 lines of text -- I think I found it. The problem seems to be related to the title of the article -- the article I was testing with contains diacriticals, yours doesn't. I was able to edit your test page without a glitch. Try editing ro:Utilizator:SQL/Problemuţă ("problemuţă" means little problem in Romanian) -- you'll most probably end up with my previous results... --Gutza T T+ 16:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Got it. So it looks as if I need to re-work the information about the college (which I tried to keep basic and factual not promotional) and disclose that it was edited by someone associated with the college.
I originally started editing the page to correct some errors and change some out-dated information not to create an "marketing piece", and I do not wish to turn it into one, but at the same time I do want some information to be available about the college.
Please advise.

- Hey, sorry about the delay in replying, several things kept coming up, and keeping me away from the computer...
I'd say, go ahead and re-create the article, if you'd like. As you've noted, it must simply be Neutral in tone, Have Verifiable Reliable sources, assert Notability, and not simply be copied from a copyrighted source (such as the subject's website)... I know, that sounds like a lot, but, it's really not that bad :) If you need anything else, feel free to ask either here, or, at the Wikipedia:Help desk (or, wherever else seems appropriate!)... Best of luck, SQLQuery me! 05:45, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
