I guess by way of advice - multiple posting of external links is frequently viewed as spam by a number of wiki editors --Nigel (Talk) 16:58, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Firstly
Welcome!
Hello, Spyross, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!
And then maybe take a look around some of the pages that deal with spam WP:SPAM would be a good place to look. However I will not be the only editor that considers links spam if that is all the contributions of the editor. Finally - do sign posts - the welcome bit above shows you how. --Nigel (Talk) 17:07, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New page
Well you are definitely getting the hang of it! My advice would be to stick around, watch what happens and contribute a bit before you try a first page. Recent changes/new page patrollers can be quite ruthless (I'm one of the nice ones<g>). It would be much better if you had any new page thought out/planned before going for it (it will be less likely to be marked for deletion then). If you are really impatient - search for the topic you are after - one of the options will be "create the article" but think before you leap!
Enjoy it, I'm around on & off if you want me --Nigel (Talk) 17:38, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- good luck - I'll keep an eye out for it. By the way - some of my best ideas come from looking at a page that looks ok - "edit"ing it to see how it is done, then pressing "cancel" and trying it out myself <g> --Nigel (Talk) 17:53, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Spam
Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. —Khoikhoi 21:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] THE new page!
Doesn't look bad at all - couple of points
- Don't sign stuff on main pages only talk ones and like
- Be careful if you have text from outside sources that you are not violating copywrite at all
- It could do with a few more wiki links. I'll put a couple and you can take it from there
Cheers --Nigel (Talk) 07:15, 21 August 2006 (UTC) And a ps - use "Edit summary" so that you and others can see what has happened --Nigel (Talk) 07:22, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reply
Hi Spyross,
Sorry for my late reply. My main point is that we don't want Wikipedia to turn into a directory of a mere external links. Adding content to articles is the best thing to do right now, because that's how Wikipedia grows. If you feel any of the other links are spam please delete them, but adding external links that give information instead of writing articles with the same info is generally discouraged. Sorry. :( —Khoikhoi 10:09, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I appreciate it. :) —Khoikhoi 19:05, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Rhodes castle.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Rhodes castle.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:24, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
