[edit] List of linguists

We have come to the agreement to only keep those linguists in the List of linguists article, that have an article on their own. This is to avoid people adding too many non-notable linguists and Linguistics docents from their universities. Sproat (might that be yourself?) doesn't have an article yet... so the only reason to keep him/you in the list is to write an article about him. You can do that yourself, of course. Even a stub will do. I'm slowly cleaning up the entire list taking out the redlinks and providing some more info (birth/death years, nationality and subjects), that takes quite some time and is the reason why there are still many "redlinkvists" in the list. I was under the impression that I was not allowed to add an article for myself: the guidelines seem to be quite specific on that point. Does what you are saying imply that I am allowed to add a stub?

I'm sorry to have said that, it was meant solely on a superficial not-on-wikipedia base, no offense. I think I might even have had one of your books on Writing Systems in my hands, once... I think you're right with that guideline, but I think that one about not writing about oneself is more to prevent "random" people from adding themselves to Wikipedia. I don't think they would delete you if you write an entry on yourself, you might want to give it a try. — N-true 19:45, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

No offense taken. I understand the need for keeping this stuff as clean as possible. Anyway I tried it. Maybe if they delete my stub I can send you the text I put in and ask you to re-enter it :-) - Sproat 19:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Hmm. The page changed, meaning that either they did remove it and someone put it back or someone else just edited it: I have been checking periodically since I wanted to see what they would do. Anyway, I guess what's there now is fine. I realize in any event that their prohibition on having people put in web pages for themselves or their friends is nonsense anyway: there are quite a number of pages for linguists which would not have been there unless their friends put them in (they are not "notable" enough) and it is clear that whoever put them in there knew more than a casual editor would know.
