Spruce Hill Township is a township in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 724 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 21.7 square miles (56.1 km²), all of it land.

Spruce Hill Township is bordered by Beale and Milford Townships to the north, Turbett Township to the east, Perry County to the south and Tuscarora Township to the west.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 724 people, 271 households, and 199 families residing in the township. The population density was 33.4 people per square mile (12.9/km²). There were 335 housing units at an average density of 15.5/sq mi (6.0/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 96.41% White, 1.93% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.55% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.80% of the population.

There were 271 households out of which 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.7% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 20.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the township the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 108.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.1 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $35,962, and the median income for a family was $40,547. Males had a median income of $33,929 versus $20,278 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,135. About 4.9% of families and 9.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.

  • Academia Pomeroy Covered Bridge at 278 feet [portal to portal] is the longest remaining covered bridge in Pennsylvania, crossing the Tuscarora Creek between Spruce Hill and Beale Townships. Owned by the Juniata County Historical Society, Mifflintown, PA since 1962, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
