Springa

Born David Spring in Quincy, Massachusetts Springa is a writer and singer.

David graduated from High School in 1981. From 1981 to 1985 Springa fronted Society System Decontrol aka SSD, a seminal Boston hardcore band that is internationally respected today. SSD toured the US and released two EPs and two albums.

SSD's earlier material was raw and loud, espousing the straight edge philosophy. Although prior to one show (opening up for the Angry Samoans at the Channel), guitarist Al Barile caught Springa smoking a marijuana cigarette and slapped him. Springa ran off down some alley, and for an hour sat alone in one of the many abandoned building which surrounded the Channel Club, though pulled himself together in time to make a triumph return to the stage, holding the head of a pig. This would go down as one of SSD's finest and most memorable shows ever.

During the last two years of their career they moved in a heavy metal direction that was less critically acclaimed. Later shows would see Springa take on a whole challenge, as he strived to emulate David Lee Roth, going as far as requesting his name be listed as "David Lee Spring" on SSD's final release, "Break it Up". Fortunately, this was shot down by all involved in the LP's release.

After the breakup of SSD Springa went on to front the short lived band Razorcaine and two comedy rock projects with members of The Slaves: Die Blitzkinder and Springa as Tom Jones. His flamboyant persona and lounge lizard lifestyle during this time stood in marked contrast to the straight edge rhetoric of SS Decontrol. In the early 1990s he would move to Chicago to pursue comedy further with SCTV, as well as his band, the Scar of David.

Springa has had many a lady come and go in his life, though still seeks his internal soul mate, preferably a girl with a name sounding nothing like "Tupper".

In the summer of 2004 Springa was seriously injured in a car accident outside of Boston. A gala benefit featuring Evan Dando and reunions of The Outlets and Jerry's Kids raised money for his medical expenses. SSD did not perform, nor will the ever perform again.

Springa is well along on the road to recovery and is working on a rock opera and is still deemed a legend throughout Boston, where rumors of the existence of a Springa Sex Tape continue to swirl.
