Spread Eagle, Wisconsin

Spread Eagle is an unincorporated community in Florence County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The community is located on U.S. Highway 141/U.S. Highway 2, about six miles northwest of Iron Mountain, Michigan. The town is located along the highway near the south end of Railroad Lake of the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes. Local government is provided by the Town of Florence.

The lake chain was named "Spread Eagle" because when seen from the sky, the chain looks somewhat like an eagle with wings spread.

The Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area is located nearby.

  • While not a resident, the famed Albert Einstein was a guest of the residents of the chain on several occasions.
