Jared Heath Lerner (born May 31, 1985, in Queens, New York and currently residing in East Meadow, Long Island) is an American sports nut, and recent alumnus of Washington University in St. Louis. He has degrees in Computer Science and Accounting, but is not very good at the former, and is only good at the latter because of his religion. Despite Jared's birthplace, he is not a fan of the New York Mets, but rather, a diehard Yankees fan, and suffers exponentially more for each year that they do not have a championship. He is also a big fan of the New Jersey Devils and the New York Giants, and would love to meet future hall of fame goaltender Martin Brodeur some day. Jared's favorite sport (and fantasy sport) is baseball, although most of his contributions on Wikipedia are done to hockey articles.
As of August 2007, Jared is still unemployed and actively looking for a job in Manhattan or the surrounding New York City area. He has jokingly said to friends that his last resort is to work at a McDonalds, despite his expensive college degree. With pressure from his father, Jared is constantly reminded that bums on the street once had a chance too, and that he is heading towards being one. As a stay-at-home job seeker, Jared spends his time editing Wikipedia articles and playing with his Kerry Blue Terrier, Shandy.

[edit] Brief Bio
The most important things in Jared's life (besides family and friends) are:
-
- The Yankees, Giants and Devils
- The four major sports
- Bowling
- Fantasy baseball, and Football
- Texas Hold'em
- Comedy (all aspects)
[edit] Yankees
In the Spring of 2003, Jared purchased season tickets for the New York Yankees with a friend. The package included 26 pickable games a year amongst the rightfield bleachers with the Section 39 Bleacher Creatures. A few years later, they upgraded to the 46-game package which had better playoff options, but after his friend dropped out Jared changed back to the flex plan by himself. The change was cost effective for Jared, although he still pays more for transportation to the ballpark ($17.50) than for any given ticket in the bleachers ($10.00) thanks to the price of the Long Island Railroad. He has publicly expressed his hatred of the train:
“ | I know that most people in Long Island are rich, but give me a break. I can't stand paying $6.75 just because I have a seat cushion. | ” |
Because of the rowdiness of the bleachers and the atmosphere, especially on Thursday and Friday nights, Jared loves the section and will rarely sit anywhere else. In the short-term, he is planning to move to Manhattan with some friends so that he can be closer to the stadium, and in the city that he loves. In the long-run, he hopes to become rich and buy the team.
[edit] Sports addict
Jared also likes the other three major sports, hence his username, Sportskido8. Besides attending Yankee games, he tries to go to as many Devils games as possible, although his distance from New Jersey makes it costly and time consuming. After the Devils move to Newark for the 2007-08 NHL season, he will be approximately 50 miles away from Prudential Center. Despite the fact that he loves the Giants, Jared has never been to a football game, professional or college. This is attributed to the fact that the Giants always sell out, and that the Washington University football team is in Division III, and are boring to watch. Basketball is Jared's least favorite of the four to watch, although he will occasionally attend a Knicks game every now and then. As a child they meant a lot to him, but now they are depressing. Jared has played fantasy football, baseball and hockey on Yahoo! Sports since 1999.
[edit] Bowling star
While Jared attended the prestigious Bronx High School of Science in Bronx, NY from 1999 to 2003, he was the captain of the Varsity Bowling team. He has a very distinct, unorthodox release, as his 16-pound weighted ball will fly out of his left hand and down the alley at an average speed of 18 miles per hour. Because of the speed of the heavy ball, and the subsequent momentum, Jared gets a lot of strikes. He needs to work on his spare game however, as he has always used his strike ball for spares, making it tricky to throw it accurate sometimes. Jared still wears his high school ring even after having graduated college, and "bowling" is represented very clearly on the left side of it.
[edit] Poker monster
During his sophomore year at Washington University, Jared learned how to play Texas Hold'em from an addicted friend. At the beginning he was not very good at it, but after a year of losing petty cash and gaining skill, he became pretty good at it. He frequently plays on Ultimatebet.com, although he enjoys playing in casinos more. Jared has been to Atlantic City five times and Las Vegas once, having made a profit at both locations. He went to Las Vegas in the Summer of 2006 to watch his addicted friend play in the World Series of Poker and to play small cash games. He met a lot of famous players in his 2006 visit, although he somehow missed Doyle Brunson, and hopes to see him someday.
[edit] Comic Relief
Jared also loves comedy, including stand-up, film and any other aspect of it. In his high school years, he frequently updated a website that featured comedic movie reviews and song parodies, with the latter being inspired by parody-great Weird Al Yankovic. Jared got lazy in college and stopped updating the site (which still exists), but found out about his school's humor magazine, WUnderground, and wrote a few hilarious articles for it. Jared has pondered whether or not a career in stand-up or comedic writing could work, since it is his passion. But he figures to get a job in one of his majors first, just to make some money and be able to pay off some of his gigantic college loans.
[edit] Wiki History
Jared joined Wikipedia in August 2006 while he was doing an internship at the auditing bureau of the New York City Comptroller's office. He was very bored one day and luckily, Wikipedia was not one of the websites blocked on his personal computer. Since then he has worked a bunch on of sports articles. He is always editing some article or another to try and get it featured (or GA first, of course). Much to his delight, the New Jersey Devils were recently featured on the front page on June 30, 2007, the 25th anniversary of their team's naming. Jared is also trying to do this with Martin Brodeur, but that might take a while, considering that the line is longer than the Great Wall of China. He supposes that he would like to become an admin someday, but he thinks he will have to wait a bit before that can happen :-/

Congrats on getting the New Jersey Devils article to featured status. I know you, flamurai and I worked hard on this for a long time, and you deserve some accolades for your hard work. For your outstanding work on things having to do with the New Jersey Devils; including the articles, lists and all that. The only reason I award this one is because the image has devils horns, so it sort of has something to do with the Devils. NJD4life 17:27, 5 July 2007 (UTC) |
