[edit] Usage
This template is used in the summary of an audio recording (i.e. at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:filename.ogg). The following parameters are used:
- title
- The name of the article that was recorded
- time
- The duration of this audio file (in mm:ss format)
- user_name
- The user name of the person who made the recording
- user_name_link
- (Optional; alternative to user_name) user_name will create a link to the user page of the user whose name is supplied. If you would rather link somewhere else (e.g. the talk page) or provide multiple links on the same line, specify those here.
- date
- The date (in YYYY-MM-DD format) of the version that was recorded (since articles change over time)
- link_to_recorded_version
- A link to the version of the article that was recorded ([Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia/Uploading_guidelines#New_field:_link_to_recorded_version|rationale]])
- accent
- The accent of the narrator
- sex
- The sex of the narrator
- first_part
- (Optional) If the recording is split into a number of parts, and this is not the first part, then first_part should specify the file-name of the first part of the recording (in the form: filename.ogg). Otherwise first_part should not be specified.
- next_part
- (Optional) If the recording is split into a number of parts, and this is not the last part, then next_part should specify the file-name of the next part of the recording (in the form: filename.ogg). Otherwise next_part should not be specified.

Due to Switchercat's concerns, I have made the sex parameter optional. Please see this discussion about removing it altogether. -SCEhardT 22:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Better: http URL, or oldid?
I've added a new field for a link to the version of the article that was recorded. The rationale for this is at [1]. Currently, this field is for a URL. As a computer programmer, of course I can see that the clean way to do this would be to ask people to insert the "oldid" value of the version they made the recording from - but as someone surrounded by non-technical people, I wonder is this an unnecessarily technical thing to ask of non-programmers?
So, should the field ask for a URL (web address), or an oldid? Gronky 21:14, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
