London is generally considered the centre of sport in England and the UK

This is extremely point of view. Football is the main sport in England. London based dominance of this sport is extremely recent. London based teams don't really dominate any other sports either (unless Surrey counts) and a major sport, rugby league, has only a limited presence in London.

London has some national (=British) tournaments such as Wimbledon, the national (=English) stadiums for football and rugby union, two test grounds that's pretty much it. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland usually have their own institutions.GordyB 13:49, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

RUGBY UNION - is a huge sport to play in in the suburbs. Metropolitan Kent has a huge number of teams so to suggest that it is most popular in North and West London is somewhat wide of the mark!! My guess is that it has been written by someone who prefers to watch rather than do!!!
