Spock (windsurfing)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Spock is a freestyle windsurfing move, where the sailor performs a sliding downwind 360 degree turn with the board and in the footstraps. Unlike the Grubby (windsurfing), in a Spock the sail is rotated separately from the board. Invented by Josh Stone.

Like in an aerial jibe or Vulcan (windsurfing), where the entire rig is shifted during the first 180 degrees of rotation, the sailor will flip the sail, then "backwind" or push the sail into the wind actively, aiding the second 180 degrees of rotation. The entire move is performed at planing speed on short boards and is therefore a "sliding" or "New School" freestyle manoeuvre.

Spock variations include onehanded, 540, clew-first, Diablo (combining Spock and Duck Tack, Diabolik and Pippa (invended by Ricardo Campello)
