[edit] More info and notes

A software bug today lasted for approximately 20 minutes and caused widespread issues on pages that contain a <ref> tag or <nowiki> tag (and possibly template subst:ing). Please pick a section, fix the pages (which may require merging the old history with the new history) and clearing the section when finished. Thanks!

This bug has been identified and (hopefully) fixed. The apparently unduplicability was due to this bug's manifestation only occuring in conjunction with the "[x] Raw signature" preference, which caused the signature sanitizer, when used with the newer parser, to break xml-style parser hook tags. Or something.

[edit] Notes

  • These are DIFFs that contain the string UNIQ.
  • I have checked as far back as 174658481, and had gone through about 758 in a row with no matches. This leads me to believe 174659240 was the earliest (but I am not 100% on that).
  • The problem was definitely repaired at some point, and that point seems to be sometime right after 174662622 (see notes below). I did a few hundred more checks, but only seemed to get repairs and discussions (see bottom).
  • This is only for the English Wikipedia, but the list of revisions and the associtaed timeperiods here may be useful to other projects for determining a time range to search.

Some fixes were needed. The last bad edit was 174662622.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 03:52, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

This timeperiod is after the reported repair scenario. As my seach method was only checking diffs rather than complete text (to save bandwidth), these are probably all false positives, which might be repairs, or discussions pertaning to the problem, or your imagination.
