[edit] Usage

It is strongly recommended
Talk page sections should have the section title format that satisfies the link building logic:
[[talk:{{PAGENAME}}#PROPOSAL- split section {{{3}}} to {{{1}}}]], which is to say, where argument '2' should equal the talk section title:
"PROPOSAL- split section {{{3}}} to {{{1}}}", and
... {{{1}}} is the ''proposed new article page name'',

... {{{3}}} is the current page's section title. (i.e. that of the one to be moved)
odd circumstances
When and if, the nominatng editor does not know what to call the proposed new page, {{{1}}} will not be specified... in which event, one can still define {{{2}}} manually as: |2=talk-section-name, or use the equivalent parameter: |talksection=talk-section-name

To insert this template as recommended, simply type:

{{ splitsection | Suggested destination pagename | Talkpage sectionname }} , or give the override parameter
discuss= (which must be given a full path) Talk:talkpagename
or alternatively, talksection= talk section title, which will build a path to the current page's talk page for you.
  • note: FAILING to specify at least one of {{{2}}}, {{{discuss}}} or {{{talksection}}}, WILL, in all cases, display a reminder (nag, nag, nag!) message. A talk page link will still be created, but it will be to a non-existent section (though still work to navigate to the talk page... just not to the proper section.)

To specify a title for the proposed article, add it as a parameter. For example, {{splitsection|New article}} would generate the following:

To specify a title for the proposed article, add it as a parameter and the talk section you name for discussion. For example, {{splitsection|New article|Propose split out section Timeline of cloudy days to New article}} would generate the following:

This template will add tagged articles to Category:Articles to be split.
