Spliff Star (born William A. Lewis) first appeared alongside Busta Rhymes as the Flipmode Squad in 1996 on his album The Coming. His name is an obvious derivation of smoking cannabis.

Spliff graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 1996 with a major in communications. This accomplishment helped him find success in the music industry.

The Flipmode Squad as a Brooklyn crew released their debut album The Imperial Album in 1998.

Every member kept busy guesting on each others albums and mixtapes as well as promoting their respective careers.

Spliff Star is set to release his first solo album entitled ...About Time sometime in 2008. He is of Trinidadian descent.

Spliff released his first (Digital-Only) solo Indie project, CONTRABAND -The Street Album, on Jan. 22nd,2008, via his label Paperrock Records, on the Flipmode/Paperrock imprint.

Lewis was arrested in Stockholm, Sweden on 11 May 2008 on suspicion of drug possession after an unidentified substance was found in his hotel room.[1] He was released after urinalysis.[1]
