[edit] Apologetic thanks
Touched as I am by the generosity of your message, your apology is truly unnecessary. Editors with your openess to learning are a real treasure on this project. Being bold and being aware is a powerful combination here. Just keep on doing what you've been doing and you should get nothing but praise. And it is great to find someone who remembers Nomad!—Theo (Talk) 01:40, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry for my diatribe.
Trevor, your edits were fine, it is your piling on to the argument that unless phrases are matched, then the statement is false, that discouraged me. Please go on with your edits, but do not condemn mine out of hand, as the reference on the Heritage Foundation site is pretty good, and the logic of charities (and offshoring) being a politically favored cause is readily apparent in the tax code and in the documentation. I apologize if I discouraged your edits in any way.--Jbpo 02:50, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
It was nice of you to post this reply. FWIW I didn't and don't agree with the strict 'text must match' point of view, which basically seems to encourage plagiarism. I did agree that the citation did not apply to my text, and I think this was my mistake. A footnote (as opposed to a general reference) should really be a footnote. But it does look like somebody thought I was you, hence the shotgun response.
Regarding charities etc., obviously what you say is correct; but I thought that, as an argument against the estate tax, this was less important than the issue of tax considerations forcing people to make business decisions that they wouldn't otherwise make; and I didn't think this point was sufficiently prominent. Even if just one business or farm must get liquidated to avoid tax complications, it represents a tragedy for that family.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll see why your barb about using adult logic and doing my own research could be discouraging. Trevor Hanson 03:49, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
