[edit] The opening sentence

"The Spiti valley is a desert mountain valley located high in the Himalaya mountains which is periodically cut off totally during winter." It isn't clear whether the valley is "cut off" in the sense that it's inaccessible, or whether there's a river therein, the flow of which is cut off. Also, "totally" is unnecessary. Also, it's unclear whether the cutting off occurs regularly or irregularly ("periodically" seems to indicate the former), and whether the "period" is annual and coincident with winter, or repeats regularly several times each winter. A comma should follow "which", since the subject to which it refers has already been made definite. "Valley", I suspect, should be capitalized, "Spiti Valley" itself being a proper noun.
