Spiration

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spiration is a website and small company based in London specialising in internet software development, voice integration, IVR, VoIP, Asterisk PBX and networked applications.

The spiration.co.uk website was created in 2000 by Chris Lacy-Hulbert (Christo). Initially used as a travel blog and an online store of Christo's poems, the site went through a number of evolutionary changes.

[edit] Spiration Channels

In 2001 Christo created the Spiration Channels. The channels provided a free-to-use, infinitely hierarchical collaboration and blogging platform. The platform was heavily Search Engine Optimised and became the content store for the original travel and poem documents of the old Spiration site.

The channels evolved to develop more features. They now allow a channel creator to hide a channel from public view, so that other users might not even know of their existence. Only the channel owner and users invited by the channel owner are able to view and post to these 'exclusive' channels. Many of the channels currently within the system are hidden in this way.

The Spiration channels have remained largely unchanged since late 2003, bar some incremental improvements to the underlying systems. This is largely due to lack of resource. Christo has considered open-sourcing the platform. Perhaps this will happen sometime soon.

[edit] Spiration Ltd

In 2003 Spiration took another turn and the company Spiration Ltd was formed. The company worked primarily to provide Property management systems to hotels.

The PMS product developed by Spiration was known as Envision-PMS. The system allowed all of the usual front-of-house administrative tasks of a hotel, including individual or group bookings, availability searches, checkin/checkout, folios/invoices/credit-note management, health and safety reporting, bar/restaurant and housekeeping itemisation, telephony billing, brochure/sales tracking, sophisticated address book management - and much more. Despite all the hard work and the fantastic quality product which was produced, the company ceased trading in November 2003 due to a lack of funding.

[edit] Consulting at Spiration

After a further two years working with Enovi LLP on more startup enterprises, Christo moved on to freelancing and contracting under the Spiration name. Christo also continued to maintain the backend systems for Confonia Ltd, and built the platforms for www.dotcut.com, www.winme.com and www.topdates.com among others. Spiration continues to exist as a small company specialising in internet software development and voice integration, using Linux, Asterisk and other open-source technologies.
