Spinner is a satirical news website based in Wellington, New Zealand.
Spinner came to prominence in 2002 when a fake news story posted on the site, "Bush to invade Kiribati islands", caused panic in the South Pacific nation and prompted denials from both the United States and Kiribati governments. The story read in part:
George W Bush today announced a realignment of US foreign policy. The goal of ousting Iraq's Saddam Hussein has now been replaced by the goal of regime change in the Kiribati islands as the new top priority.
