Speedy Hire plc is a British equipment hire company based in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside. Listed on the London Stock Exchange it became a constituent of the FTSE 250 in June, 2006.
Formed in April, 1977 from its first tool hire outlet in Wigan, Lancashire, it has grown to become one of Britains largest suppliers of construction based hire equipment and related services, now operating from over 500 outlets throughout the UK and Ireland.
From the beginning, the group traditionally focused on tool hire, but now also consists of businesses specialising in lifting equipment, survey equipment, pumps, site accommodation, generators and air power.
It operates its tool hire business geographically through its subsidiary companies in the North, South, West, and Scotland.
On 1st August 2007 Speedy Hire purchased the tool hire division of Hewden Hire for an estimated £115m.
