[edit] Summary

This is a screenshot of SpeedScript 128, a type-in word processor published in the October 1987 issue of COMPUTE!'s Gazette. It is believed that this screenshot is ineligible for copyright because:

  • 23 of the 25 lines consists of the text of the Gettysburg Address, which is in the public domain.
  • The remaining two lines consist of a header with no copyrightable creative elements. According to U.S. copyright law as described on this official U.S. government website, "Titles, names, short phrases, and slogans" are not eligible for copyright. The header line, which consists of a title, two names, and one generic short phrase, thus falls into this category.
  • As per en:Wikipedia:Public domain#Fonts, bitmapped typefaces such as the default Commodore font used in this screenshot are not eligible for copyright under U.S. law.
  • In the unlikely circumstance that any additional copyright is created by my composition of the above PD elements into this screenshot, I hereby irrevocably waive it.

[edit] Licensing
