[edit] Invite to Star Wars Wiki

I am notifying you that we finally have Star Wars Wiki (aka Wookieepedia) up and running and we need good Star Wars contribs like yourself helping the cause. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:57, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Garm bel iblis.jpg

Image deletion warning The image Image:Garm bel iblis.jpg has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion because it lacks source and license information, and it is not used in any articles. If you feel that this image should not be deleted, please go there to voice your opinion.

[edit] WH40k-stub

Hi SparqMan - I note you've created a new stub category. Did you realise that stub categories should normally be cleared by Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting before creation? That way they can be vetted to check that there are a viable number of stubs (at least 60-100) and that the category does not cross the existing stub hierarchy before the stub is created.

If you can provide any information on why these stubs were created, please add a note to entry for these stubs at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria#Newly-discovered stub categories giving the reason for the stubs. In addition, if there is any Wikiproject associated with these stubs add that information. Thanks. Grutness|hello? 07:27, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking of Template:idw-uo

Please check which page you are really editing before you delete things. Thanks, Alphax τεχ 00:46, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I should have been a bit clearer. RedWolf placed the template on your page, but forgot to substitute it. According to this diff page, you (or someone using your account) blanked the template - presumably, they were trying to remove it from your talk page. After checking I decided that the change was accidental, reverted the template, substituted it onto your page, left you this note (which I should have worded more carefully), left a note on RedWolf's talk page, and thought nothing more of it. I apologise for being so rude towards you. Alphax τεχ 15:06, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reply to invitation

Thanks for the invite! At present, my tinkering with Star Wars articles is limited to those that I have general knowledge of and are notable enough to be included in Wikipedia. Since my main contributions are to history (such as Isaac Brock) or politics (such as John Manley), these changes are generally pretty haphazard. Thanks for the offer, and you may see may at Wookiepedia yet, but for now I'll probably give my attention solely to Wikipeida. Best Wishes --Scimitar 21:09, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Warren Silver

Good job on that Warren Silver page. I was surprised to see one and I guess you follow him, because you're going to the same school he did? I am a law clerk in the same building as him and am well aware of the changes on the Maine Supreme Court. Thanks and good job!AFethke 16:53, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

  • The announcement of his appointment came up in a Google News alert, so I added him to the List of American University people and decided to do a little extra research to start an article on him. Voila! Thanks for noticing. --SparqMan 21:26, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/On a Sensual Note

Hi. Just dropping a note that you forgot to sign your vote. Cheers! -- BD2412 talk 16:06, August 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] On a Sensual Note deletion

Hi, thanks for your message. The result of the VfD was irrelevant: I deleted the page as a listed copyvio. Where is it claimed that the text was released into the commons? This wasn't mentioned either in the listing on WP:CP or on the article's talk page, which is where such a claim should be made in the event of a copyvio listing. --Ngb ?!? 17:12, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but it's obvious from both the history of the talk page (see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:On_a_Sensual_Note&action=history) and the history of WP:CP (see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Copyright_problems&oldid=22194903, the revision immediately before I removed the copyvio) that you never made any such claim. --Ngb ?!? 18:48, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
The 'old talk page' hasn't been deleted -- there are no deleted revisions in the edit history. The text of the article can be reinstated, but we will need confirmation of permission from the copyright holder. I have written to the listed contact address for the group to confirm this. --Ngb ?!? 21:34, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image:AU logo.jpg has been listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:AU logo.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

[edit] Kevin Owen

Hi. Do you have a source for categorising Kevin Owen as an American University alumnus? Thanks SP-KP 17:35, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

I was working from the List of American University people. Apparently the two Kevin Owens are different. I've fixed the problem. --SparqMan 17:40, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Carroll A. Campbell, Jr.

I have reverted your inclusion of Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. to the American University alumni category, because neither the article text nor the existing external links mention that he was an American University alum. If in fact, he was an American University alum, please mention it in the article text, cite a reliable source, and then re-include him in the category. --TommyBoy 08:52, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I've added a source for his alumni status and reinstated the category. --SparqMan 09:09, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reminder...

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

[edit] Louis Goodman stub

Hey Sparqman! I've started a stub on Dean Goodman of SIS...any idea where I could find more info. to expand it further? Thanks. -Fsotrain09 17:21, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

A search on Google yields a short professional biography and a search on Amazon yields a bibliography. Those are good places to start. --SparqMan 15:11, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Williamsfreelibrary.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Williamsfreelibrary.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Sorry about that

Sorry about that, I forgot about adding in the "Stubs" on Prof. O'Connor, Kerwin and DeGregorio, with time it will get better.

Not a problem. It happens to the best of us. --SparqMan 20:30, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] American University

Thanks for your comments and input. I would really like to discuss this with you in greater depth. Could you please contact me at the Wikimedia office or send me an email to let me know what would be most convenient for you. Thanks. Danny 21:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SheikSpeak.com

SheikSpeak.com is the new official Duncan Sheik message board. It is only a month old so there are not tons of members, but the admin is close friends with Duncan, and it is sanctioned by Duncan [(http://duncansheik.com/blog/?p=95]). In fact, it was created at the request of Duncan himself and his management. The previous message board sheikfreik no longer discusses Duncan and he has pulled any relationship with the board. I hope this counts as "notable" in your eyes. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hambons (talkcontribs).

150 users hardly seems worth including, and Duncan's post on his blog isn't exactly a "sanctioning" nor does it mention anything about it being official. Can you dig that stuff up? --SparqMan 05:02, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry

Several users have expressed concern over my block nomination of several college a cappella groups. I would like to apologize for causing a medium-sized ruckus on the AFD page and thereby wasting the time of several excellent contributors. I see now that this was an ill choice for a block nomination. I'll be relisting most of the articles individually as soon as I can double check the list. Again, please accept my apologies. savidan(talk) (e@) 17:06, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Hey, thanks for the help. I am now reviewing all the documents I probably should have read beforehand. It's just that I saw relevant information that needed to be added. Upon further review, I also added the new pictures because you guys wrote that the old ones were about to be deleted. Anyway, thank you again! --Senordesupremo 04:10, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WVAU/WAMU

I'd think a clarification on any possible WVAU/WAMU split would be good, but I would have to do some research to determine when/if the station was ever student run. From my brief time there (1989-1991), I was under the impression that WAMU was licensed to the university but the students never used those call letters.

I think we'd need word from some older alums/WVAU folk to answer that question. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Madopal (talkcontribs).

[edit] Image:Deerfieldprogress.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Deerfieldprogress.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Edward 22:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Planar Chaos

Good job cleaning up the "notable" card section of Planar Chaos, I wanted to do the same thing but thought I might be stepping on someone's toes. Glad you did it and well done :) --Mjrmtg 18:44, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:AmericanUniversityLogotype.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:AmericanUniversityLogotype.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 04:59, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dcmotemapembelogo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Dcmotemapembelogo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 18:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Dcmotemapembelogo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Dcmotemapembelogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 18:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Dcmotemapembelogo.gif

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Dcmotemapembelogo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:40, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Dcmotemapembelogo.gif)

[edit] Notability of Sean Parker

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Sean Parker, by Seaneparker (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Sean Parker seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Sean Parker, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Sean Parker itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 00:35, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Andremuff.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 13:40, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Condormanposter.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Condormanposter.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
