Origin of Early Settlers

It is a common misconception that the early settlers of the Sparta area were all from Pennsylvania. In reality, many of the settlers were from Dutchess and Westchester County in New York. In fact, the first Yarmouth Quaker meetings were held at the home of John and Ruth Kipp in 1818. John Kipp came to Sparta from Dutchess County, New York. This home is still standing in Sparta and today is more commonly referred to as the 'Sanderson House' after later owners of the property. JSDA (talk) 01:05, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
