[edit] Academics

Spain Park has recently been recognized as one of the premiere academic schools in Alabama and the nation with its nomination for the Blue Ribbon Award. The school boasts a large and ever-growing number of AP classes and a rising number of National-Merit and Presidential Scholars.[citation needed]

The school is also known for its technology-heavy environment which was tested during the 2006-2007 school year, and fully implemented at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.

[edit] Athletics

Spain Park's athletic teams are nicknamed "Jaguars," often abbreviated "Jags."

For the first time in the school's short history, the Jaguar basketball team advanced to the ASHAA Final Four state championship, losing in the state semifinal game. [1]

Spain Park's football team was shown on MTV's television program Two-A-Days, as an opponent of archrival Hoover High.[2] The team also advanced to the "Super Six" Class 6A final game of the Alabama High School Athletic Association football championship, losing to defending champion Prattville High School (which defeated Hoover in the 2006 finals).

Al Del Greco, former kicker for the Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans, is the boys' golf coach and the football team's kicking coach.
