Brewster Rockit: Space Guy!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brewster Rockit: Space Guy! is a satirical comic strip created by Tim Rickard. Featuring the character Brewster Rockit as the captain of a space station named "R.U. Sirius", it parodies the plots of movies and books from the science fiction genre. The comic first debuted on July 5, 2004 - that same month Rickard was interviewed on the online magazine SciFiDimensions.com [1]. The comic is nationally syndicated by Tribune Media Services.

[edit] Plot

Brewster Rockit is the Captain of the R.U. Sirius, a space station orbiting Earth that acts as both an embassy for visiting aliens as well as a first line of defense against hostile aliens. Its mission statement is (probably) "Try not to die a horrible death." The comic often goes off into long story lines based upon various science fiction movies and books as well as current events, with Brewster and his crew typically coming out victorious over the countless evil villains they face.

[edit] Main Characters

  • Captain Brewster Rockit: As the captain of R.U. Sirius, he is brave, optimistic, and dumb as a rock. His strong leadership skills are complemented by a boyish sense of humor. He graduated from the Air Force Academy and then served in NASA as a space shuttle pilot. However, he failed his intelligence exam due to the fact that he kept eating the pencils. He also loves Spongebob Squarepants. A bucket on a coat tree (called Bucky the Robot) once won an election against him to become captain.
  • Lieutenant Pamela Mae Snap: Second in command on board the R.U. Sirius, she is usually the only one responsible for keeping things running aboard the space station. She sometimes has a hot temper and an attitude that gets her in trouble. She is the mother of two young kids from a bad marriage she doesn't talk about. She has shown to have a "thing" for bad boys, having dated Dirk Raider, Brewster's arch nemesis, as well as Karnor.
  • Dr. Mel Practice: Dr. Mel is the ship's doctor, as well as a mad scientist (he preferes the term "sanity-challenged scientist"). He often creates monsters and machines, but inevitably fails in his plans to conquer the world. One of his craziest inventions was a "Procrastination Ray", which sent troublesome objects into the future, so you have no choice but to deal with it later
  • Agent X: The mysterious government agent from the Department of the Paranormal. His job is to seek out the truth about aliens, then cover it up. The R.U. Sirius Space Station was his idea.
  • Cliff Clewless: The station's overweight engineer -- a position for which he is completely unqualified. He got his position through his computer-hacking abilities by hacking into NASA's computer and upgrading his job grade from programmer to engineer. He believes himself to be popular with the ladies, but is actually not.
  • Winky: The child assistant to Dr. Mel, who is always stuck with the nastiest or most dangerous tasks. Consequently, Winky always ends up injured. His most common phrase is "AHHHH! MY SPLEEN!" On a happier note, he was sent for a week (July 10 through 14, 2007) to study at Hogwarts so the strip could do some Harry Potter humor. Unfortunately, Winky was only a C student in Magic.

[edit] Other Characters

  • Pal 8000: A computer creation of Dr. Mel who views Dr. Mel as a father figure. He regulates the station's life-support systems and is a bit immature, throwing juvenile tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He wants to participate in human activities such as baseball and biking even though he is a three-ton computer. A parody of HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
  • Bucky the Robot: A "robot" constructed of a coat rack with a bucket as a head. Built by Cliff, he received the worker of the year award for the R.U. Sirus. He also got the same score on the intelligence exam as Brewster.
  • Oldbot: An aging robot with a failing memory.
  • Dirk Raider: Once an apprentice of Brewster's in the order of Goodguy Knights, he is now his arch rival. A member of the evil corporation Microsith, which is currently known as "Numesis".
  • Karnor: A visiting alien that has a bad habit of eating people. He has a crush on Pam.
  • Philbert: Cliff's alien son. Cliff was impregnated by an alien (reminiscent of the space creature in the movie Alien) and gave birth to a carnivorous alien which he named "Philbert." Philbert now lives somewhere in the air ducts.
  • Ursula: is a hairless female from Venus. She and Pam don't get along. She is a spy for Dirk Raider. Pam knows this but can not convince the other crew members.
  • Morty: The cousin of Cosmicus.
  • Enigmo: An all-powerful, but gullible, floating head.
  • Ensign Kenny: An extremely unlucky human, who so far died in a "tragic shopping cart accident" while he was shopping on Earth with Brewster, then eaten by Karnor (he mysteriously reappeared after being killed). He suffocated while being tested by Brewster for the "Space Plague," and was zapped by Insectoids. He most recently evolved into a "star child" on Jupiter.
