Soyuz38 are an alternative rock band based in England.
They were originally named 'Chump the Band' but renamed in 2005. This was due to the development of Chump the band from lo-fi "lounge punk" music that was largely improvised; to an equally experimental, but more professional sound with a more serious side to the lyrics.
Chump the band featured in the demo section of the NME in January 2002, and went on to be featured as a 'demo of the year' in December of the same year.
Despite positive reviews and label interest the band have yet to perform live, largely due to the fact there are only two known members; Stephen Reid, who writes the lyrics and sings. With multi instrumentalist Stewart Parker who performs and records the music. The music was described by the NME as "Slow and cinematic, with the odd incongruous touch". The first album under the name of Soyuz38 entitled Albanian Woman was completed in 2006 and released in January 2007. Videos have been filmed for at least three of the new songs.
Stephen Reid and Stewart Parker have been performing Chump / Soyuz38 original music since 1997, and their music has featured in several low budget films, including Dufresne, The Tourist and Sharkboy.
Named after the Soyuz 38 space mission, but without the space between the z and 3.
