Sovereign State of Bolívar

The Sovereign State of Bolívar was a State in the former Country of Granadine Confederation which included the provinces of Cartagena, Monteria and Sincelejo. Today the area of the former state makes up most of modern day Departments of Bolivar, Sucre, Cordoba and Atlantico, northern Colombia.

By Article 1, Law 26 of December 26, 1862, the Sovereign State of Bolívar was divided into twelve provinces during the government of President of Colombia, Juan José Nieto:[1]
- Province of Barranquilla (village of Barranquilla as capital)
- Province of Carmen (village of El Carmen de Bolívar as capital)
- Province of Cartagena (village of Cartagena de Indias as capital)
- Province of Corozal (village of Corozal as capital)
- Province of Chinú (village of Chinú as capital)
- Province of Lorica (village of Santa Cruz de Lorica as capital)
- Province of Magangué (village of Magangué as capital)
- Province of Mahates (village of Mahates as capital)
- Province of Mompox (village of Santa Cruz de Mompox as capital)
- Province of Nieto (village of Ciénaga de Oro as capital)
- Province of Sabanalarga (village of Sabanalarga as capital)
- Province of Sincelejo (village of Sincelejo as capital)
