[edit] History of Southern Rhodesia

There is a separate article on Rhodesia after 1964, and the history of Southern Rhodesia before 1964 is there. I propose it be moved here. Rexparry sydney 01:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Oppose Support (you were right and I was wrong!). UDI Rhodesia is quite a separate issue to the not-quite-a-Dominion Southern Rhodesia from 1924-65. Fys. “Ta fys aym”. 17:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Support - If there is a separate article for Southern Rhodesia, it should contain the history section relevant to it. Number 57 13:40, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Oppose It seems reasonable to me that all the material pertaining to Rhodesia should go under Zimbabwe with seperate headings perhaps for each of the name changes. In any case, it was originally called South Zambesia not Southern Rhodesia and only acquired that name 1898. Prior to becoming Zimbabwe it was successively known as Southern Rhodesia, Rhodesia, Rhodesia-Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe-Rhodesia. It would clearly be unreasonable to have seperate articles for each name. The fact is that socially and geographically the entity now known as Zimbabwe and originally constituted as South Zambesia is the same as the entity known by the litany of names cited above. Merging all Southern Rhodesia-related articles into Zimbabwe is completely unrealistic. Not only would it be way over Wikipedia's length guidelines, it would be politically unacceptable to most readers of both Zimbabwe and Rhodesia articles. You only have to look at the Zimbabwe talk page to realise your suggestion would be constantly reverted. Besides which the state of Zimbabwe is so totally a different entity to the states preceding it that seperate articles are completely justified and Wikipedia abounds with other precedents. Bringing in the name South Zambesia, btw, is irrelevant (and while we're being irrelevant, the name Zambesia officially disappeared in 1895 not 1898; from 1895 the name Rhodesia was used collectively for all BSAC Charterlands). [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Rhodesiancoatofarms.GIF

Image:Rhodesiancoatofarms.GIF is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
