[edit] Expose Southeast
What about a list of teachers who are not returning next year? There must be atleast 20+ leaving.
stop being pc and spit the truth southeast sux and get over it unsigned edit by Nopc22 (talk · contribs)
I cannot believe the school would go so far as to trying to protect its already diminished image on wikipedia. That is as low as it gets. After bad publicity in the N&O, unpopularity among students at SRMHS, and a spot on WRAL's 6-o clock news regarding Calculus 3 and the school's clear "budget crisis," the school is attempting to sweep the dust under the rug. unsigned edit by 24.148.171.178 (talk · contribs)
Wikipedia is a project of global scale. There are more than 500,000 registered users worldwide. There have been more than 26 million edits to this encyclopedia since its inception. It is not realistic to believe that administrators of Wikipedia are working in collusion with the faculty of your high school. We are applying policy only, especially with regards to the neutral point of view which the encyclopedia must maintain. Adding content such as the students being dismayed that one of the administrators of your school is not retiring is not neutral. I invite your positive, neutral and sourced contributions to the encyclopedia. If you can not do that, your changes will be reverted. This is not some conspiracy out to cover up whatever evils your high school is supposedly involved in. We are here to write an encyclopedia. --Durin 04:20, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] The Article Revisited...
The following are a list of facts that an anonymous author posted and are truly false.
Myth: "Beginning the 2004-2005 school year, the school changed it's name to Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School: Center for Leadership and Technology. The name change came with a new intiative on the part of former principal John Modest to encourage students through school activities to develop strong leadership skills. Furthermore, the institution felt the move represented an attempt to boost the school's success in academics."
Fact: Southeast has seen a steady decline in mathematics and science programs recently; consequently, the genious administrators felt a theme change would cover up the mess. It's very absurd that such a change would be implemented when the school has the science and math infrastructure.
I think I will do a revision a day since: the tip of the iceberg.unsigned edit by Nopc22 (talk · contribs)
It is rather unfortunate that the administration censors anything that it finds negative about the school; no matter how true it is.unsigned edit by 69.134.171.61 (talk · contribs)
We are not censoring negative facts, we are following wikipedia's guidelines on keeping a Neutral point of view which means that negative statements can be made only if they are backed up with facts and personal opinions are not allowed in articles, if you continue to vandalize this page you may be blocked for editing for vandalism. I believe the previous user was referring to the SRMHS Administration. The school is truly falling apart. There is numerical data and such to support the claims. SRMHS Administration is the one blocking the truth. The administration is just upset and frustrated that students are sick and fed up with the school's overall atmosphere; however, I will abstain from invective language. -Nopc22
As I've said before that's not Wikipedia's problem and if you take them here by inserting blatantly point of view statements your edits will be treated as vandalism and reverted. Jtkiefer T | @ | C ----- 23:43, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] About Calculus 3
In order to have a class at the school, there must be at least 8 people signed up to take the class. That is the reason that we do not have a Calculus 3 class. Now the School System should have worked out a deal with NC State to reduce or eliminate the tuition fees but they have not. This is not JUST the school. Mr. Modest would pay for the kids to go to state; however, it was against the wishes of the magnet board and he repeatidly had to "ask for forgiveness". Even though I whole heartidly agree that this school is falling apart, the Calculus 3 fiasco is not fully the school's fault. teh Mephisto 17:14, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
The new administration failed to inform this to incoming students and if there was no Calculus 3 class offered on campus, the class would not have appeared on the students' transcripts. Don't talk about what you don't know and I say if a class is PUT ON A STUDENT'S SCHEDULE BEFORE SCHOOL EVEN STARTS, it's the school's responsibility to fulfill the student's educational needs to which the school and the school system promised to satisfy. Why do we hold back students who are academically gifted just so those behind can catch up? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.163.122.225 (talk • contribs)

However, the fact that "SRMHSadmin" has been appointed by SRMHS to come on wikipedia to advertently reverse the truth is quite distasteful and very immature. If the school needs to appoint someone to log onto wikipedia to change the information, then obviously, SRMHS has something to hide. I know the students who were involved in the Calculus III case and can account the numerous tete-a-tetes the students have had with the principal. The school is truly in a budget crisis, cutting funds from all educational departments, and while the SRMHSadmin continues to make FALSE statements on the page, including changing: "cutting funds from math..." to "improving funds to math..." in the administration portion, it remains dispicable to see that because of SRMHSadmin's status, that this person is INFACT, treated as the true keeper of the word, when in fact, the truth is just being reversed. The students have gone to the Board of Education to complain, called an NC Senator, and even talked to the Superintendent who continue to have no response. With no response from the school board or the Superintendent, who is infact good friends with the principal of SRMHS, SRMHSadmin and this "admin's" superior, are truely blocking the truth that the public deserves to know.
If this so called "vandalism" continues, it is possible that local news coverage will cover SRMHS's task of covering the truth on a website like wikipedia. If we continue to allow the public to read all the commentary SRMHSadmin has been placing on the website, we cheat both ourselves and our right to the truth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.148.171.178 (talk • contribs)
- I'm watching him as well, NPOV rules go both ways so if he unfairly adds opinion just to flatter the school he'll be violating the rules as well, and in terms of having to get the word out, go to the newspaper, protest just keep it off Wikipedia. Jtkiefer T | @ | C ----- 01:52, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
It's not the matter of opinion that SRMHS admin is adding its the fact that he reverses words. Reversing words from "cutting" to "improving," words from "decreasing" to "increasing," and many other references, opinion is not a matter involved with SRMHSadmin's actions, its the admin's act of REVERSING THE TRUTH. In doing so, opinion is not added, the school is just becoming "flattered" by lies that attempt at polishing the school's diminishing image after Mr. John Modest's leave.
- Well he has been warned (click the history link to view the page history as he has blanked the content of the talk page several times in the past), blatantly flaunting Wikipedia's neutral point of view rules is a serious issue and as I said above even though blocks are to be avoided if possible (thus talking here rather than blocking all involved users and IP's) I have no problem blocking anyone who refuses to follow Wikipedia's rules and guidelines and that includes people on both sides of the issue. Jtkiefer T | @ | C ----- 02:04, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
One note, had the school truthfully increased funds to the math department, SRMHS would definately have a Calculus III teacher that would uphold the school's image as a magnet school. When that fact is supported by www.wral.com, and then the wikipedia article later goes on to say that the school is increasing funds, that is a bit contradictory, wouldn't you suppose? Therefore, I propose a change on that section from "increasing" to decreasing. Funds to the art department have been cut by 40%, a definate lie on admin's part.
[edit] support your info
On a similar topic to the above ones, I'd like to remind all the editors of this article that all information has to be sourced and that any unsourced info can and most likely will be removed, also opinions have no place in Wikipedia articles so please keep them to yourselves. Jtkiefer T | @ | C ----- 02:18, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
I believe it to be hilarious that the previous poster is entirely hypocritical in requiring sources for the submission of fact. The fact that none of the current "sources" prove anything within the article is a riot. Are students not primary sources of everyday life at the school? Are administrators not? Is Wikipedia a source in and of itself? Does Wikipedia require sources for the posting of information? I propose, in order to relieve the tensions between the student body and the administration, a come to jesus moment. Obviously we are all biased in some way. Don't get on your high horse. Don't be hypocritical about sources (increasing funding!?!). Wikipedia is free source. Make it democratic. Make it as it is supposed to be. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" (Palahuniuk). In 'vprotecting' this article, you disenfranchise the powerless. Let the voices be heard, and if it is "vandalism," you can always revert, report and ban.
Moral: Don't be a hypocrite with power. It never leads to a good rep. for anybody.

- Wikipedia is not a democracy. Further, single points of data from a single student does not constitute factual data. Biased comments in the encyclopedia based on anecdotal information will be removed.--Durin 14:57, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
A group of students, not one, agree that the school's overall atmosphere is declining. We all have experiences to buttress such a notion, so then how do we prove it? Several of the fixes made by srhsadmin are false, and it is difficult to quantify the students' facts when class enrollment data and such are withheld by the administration. -Nopc22
According to the article, the school has had a "strong emphasis on athletics, academics and extracurricular activities, like the FIRST team." In response to comments made by srhsadmin, the previous statement is a blatant lie. If we have had such a "strong emphasis," how come Science Olympiad nearly went extinct this year if it weren't for some students? If we have had such a "strong emphasis," how come our school only has one section of calculus? And if we have had such a "strong emphasis," how come our school does not have a FIRST Team as of this moment? There are some serious questions that need to be asked of the school. As for the signature, I prefer my style. -Nopc22

- If you are inferring that SRHS's administration is here at Wikipedia changing this article to their point of view, I doubt you are correct. I am not aware of any such person. As to a group of students vs. one; it doesn't really matter in this context. What matters is neutral point of view (Wikipedia:Neutral point of view) which can't be observed by culling content from observations by one or even a thousand students. How then do you prove it? Go to the local press, get them to write an article about the problems, and reference the article back here and then we'll have an independently verifiable source of information. Also, please note that you can add ~~~~ to the end of your comments on talk pages and it will automatically sign for you. Thanks for your patience, --Durin 22:21, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Base vs. Magnet Students
Concerning the following, "SRMHS is a Magent High School, which means it has seats reserved for students that have been identified as Academically Gifted." This is not what a "magnet school" refers to, a magnet school is one in which has a certain specialty, in the case of SRHS, technology. You certainly do not have to be "Academically Gifted." Unless there are any objections, I will remove that entire paragraph.
It also contains the lines, "Such students historically do very poorly academically and bring down the quality of a school." in reference to students from the surrounding area. A comment like this has no place on Wikipedia unless it can be cited. OPaul 00:33, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
