South Norwood is also: a neighborhood, with a strong sense of local and ethnic identity, in Norwood, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Dpbsmith 00:15, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

OK, I've got that off my chest... now I don't have to do anything stupid on the main page or create a stupid disambiguation page.

[edit] South Norwood Lake mention

In the 4th paragraph it mentions the nicest area is known as South Norwood Lakes. It states that the lakes is in South Norwood Country Park and describes the surrounding area. This is wrong, the lake is part of South Norwood Lake and Grounds. South Norwood Country Park is more south, beyond the London Bridge - Brighton line. Link changed to reflect this. A note about the 'South Norwood Country park' or Sewage farm as it was known until the mid 80s. The site was up for redevelopment in the late 70s but was found to have a dangerously high lead content in the soil, so housing could not be built upon it. At about the same time an archaeological dig uncovered a small roman moated settlement that was inhabited right up to the middle ages - if someone fancies looking up a source i am sure it was in the usual journals - I know about the dig because I assisted, until the lead threat made the use of volunteer labour a bit too risky.
Also might be good to mention Captain sensible of the Damned as an inhabitant, went to Stanley tech later lived at Edith Road whilst in the Damned. he even wrote a song about the place, called 'croydon' the B side to Happy Talk.

[edit] London Bus Routes

I see this has changed a fair bit. Well, I have slightly rewritten it. Yes there is a night bus going to Central London, the N68, which runs through South Norwood Hill and turns into Whitehorse Lane. It does stop around here, in fact it stops outside the Nugent Road bus stop (according to the TfL Journey Planner and my own experience). It's not explicity stated as a stop on the N68 maps but it's a minor stop and the bus maps don't mark every single stop. Anyone who can read maps know that to get from Upper Norwood (Beulah Hill) to Thornton Heath on a bus means travelling through South Norwood Hill to Whitehorse Lane, therefore going through the top edge of South Norwood. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Smoothy (talkcontribs) 13:48, 12 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Rewrite

I have started rewriting the article to match Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements. I will carry on over the next few days. Regan123 23:12, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Excellent. Looks a lot better and more formal, I'm impressed. I just tidied up a few bits cos of slightly bad grammar.Smoothy 12:46, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks I was a bit tired when doing it. I am going to work on the recreation section next. Just need to find some local history sources. Regan123 13:37, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
I have added a B quality with low importance to the project banner. Areas for improvement include the history section to be expanded with reliable sources and, as always, more refs! Regan123 06:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images

I see that there is two new images, cool. However, I think they're a bit out of place where they are now. For a start, they begin underneath the "Sports" headline, despite the fact that they are not related at all to this section. Secondly, I think you only need one to go alongside the section they relate to (in this case, "Recreation"), mainly because this section is so small. If both pictures need to go into the article, they should start from "Recreation", not from "Sports".Smoothy 10:04, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it has been starting to drift into incoherence, so I've gone ahead and moved one of the images to the right hand side. I have moved the other one (with the Tramlink line) to Tramlink route 2 (if that is the right article - my memory of the local geography is a bit hazy now - pls fix if I've got it wrong). Also, I have combined the two sections into one because, as you point out, the recreation section was very small.--A bit iffy 11:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

Soon more pictures of South Norwood town will come to this page as well as others, because i'm going to go "crazy" with my digital camera next week! So if you see anyone around Croydon with a camera it's probably me! Pafcool2 15:35, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
