[edit] Illawarra?

The article currently asserts that the Illawarra is included in the South Coast. I don't believe so. I htink we need to define the region with reference to some reliable sources.--Matilda talk 02:32, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Towns, LGAs etc

Hi Matilda. I see you have created categories for the South Coast, New South Wales. I have been tossing up for some time creating {{Towns in the South Coast}}, similar to {{Riverina}} and {{Towns in New England}}.

With the cats, I think they should be named Category:Local Government Areas in the South Coast, New South Wales rather than "of the South Coast..." The LGAs are "of" New South Wales, in so far as the State grants them existence and "in" the South Coast region, if that makes sense. The same would apply to Category:Local Government Areas of the Riverina, New South Wales.

The disambuigation is another issue. Should we use a comma or brackets for NSW.

Be delighted if there was a town template created. First of all we have to agree on the regional definition - see above - I don't believe it includes the Illawarra as per quite a few of the governmental regional definitions in the two articles on georgraphic / regional NSW divisions - but we have to have concensus.
Happy with a rename of the LGA cat though on the coast soounds better than in the coast.
I don't have firm views on disambiguation - if you look at the other NSW regions in Category:Regions of New South Wales - most are dabbed with a comma, two with brackets. Category:Regions of Western Australia shows consistent use of brackets. The one Vic region needing dabbing uses brackets. South Australia uses commas. Perhaps we need to get an Australia wide view.--Matilda talk 04:15, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I would argue for brackets, as the region is a geographic feature and brackets are therefore the standard. The Riverina uses a comma and it's a kind of standard-bearer for regional categories, but the majority of others I can find use brackets so that would seem to be the most straightforward option.   • The article will need a section on indigenous people. These include the Thaua and the Yuin but looking at http://www.aiatsis.gov.au/aboriginal_studies_press/aboriginal_wall_map/map_page/map_detail-f5 the Thaua don't get a mention and the Yuin cover the whole area or is that just language? See Tindale for people link [1] Hmmm - but Tindale doesn't recognise the Yuin separately [2] and lists them as either Thaua or Djiringanj but the article states From Cape Dromedary (Kajan) south to beyond Bega; inland to the sharp scarp of the Dividing Range east of Nimmitabel. This tribe was omitted in error from Tindale (1940). Howitt (1904) used the term Yuin to embrace this tribe and the Thaua; the word ['juin] means man; farther north, as among the Tharawal, it means 'yes.' [3]--Matilda talk 00:56, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No rail links?

If the South Coast Line terminates at Bomaderry how can the article say that there are no rail links? Bomaderry is in the South Coast area. There are not extensive rail links throughout the area, perhaps. Bleakcomb (talk) 22:15, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
