Southwest Virginia Community College

Southwest Virginia Community College (SVCC) is located outside of Richlands, Virginia, on the border of Tazewell and Russell counties, and is one of the 23 schools in the Virginia Community College System. SVCC was opened in 1968 to serve the residents of Buchanan, Russell and Tazewell counties. Dickenson County is also partially served along with Mountain Empire Community College. On average, over 4,000 students are served during the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • Buchanan Hall - first building to be constructed on campus, currently houses the cafeteria, book store, student lounge, humanities division, and student government association
  • Tazewell Hall - located in the center of campus, home of the office of the president, public relations, financial aid, student services, counseling offices, admissions, the math and sciences department and their labs.
  • Russell Hall - home of the business division, the library, and the distance education program. Also currently home of the Learning Resources Center.
  • Dickenson Hall - home of the administration of justice program and the photo lab.
  • Davis Hall - home of the automotive lab and the electronics program.
  • Dr. Charles R. King Community Center - center of the music and physical ed. departments.
  • Booth Hall - Located in Buchanan County, shares space with the Appalachian School of Law. Grand Opening and Dedication for the building took place on January 13, 2008.
  • Earl and Dorthy Dilinger Learning Resources Center - currently under construction, when completed will house the learning resources center, library, numerous classrooms, a college radio station, and a new student lounge.
  • National Guard Armory - houses the Respiratory Care and Radiology Department.

  • Baseball field
