Southwark Street

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Southwark Street is a street in the London Borough of Southwark, SE1, just south of the River Thames. It runs between Blackfriars Road to the west and Borough High Street to the east. Southwark Bridge Road crosses halfway along. At the eastern end to the north is Borough Market.

The road forms part of the A3200, which continues with Stamford Street to the west.

On the north side towards the east is Bramah's Tea and Coffee Museum. Close by, next to the river and visible from Southwark Street, is the large Tate Modern gallery, formerly a power station. Built in the 1870s, the former Menier Chocolate Factory factory on Southwark Street was converted to an arts complex that incorporates an art gallery, restaurant, and theatre.
