Southill is an area in the south of Limerick, Republic of Ireland comprising four residential parks.
The parks are Donagh O' Malley Park, John Carew Park, Keyes Park and Kincora Park in order of decreasing size. Most were built in the 1960s. The area is notorious for being a bit of a dive, with rampamt working-class lawlessness that is typical of Limerick. The most famous example is Francis Kelly, who runs an illegal shebeen despite constant police raids. [1] People from Limerick are generally looked down on by people from other counties in Ireland, and people from Southill are looked down on by people from Limerick, which is a good indication of the standard of the area.[2][3]
In 2005, Southill appeared on RTÉ television show Joy in the Hood with Irish-American comedian Des Bishop holding stand up comedy workshops with four locals of the area, Kevin "Bull" Keogh, Tanya & Brian Fitzgerald and Darren Shine. The show was filmed over approx 3 weeks and involved the participants learning and performing stand-up comedy in the area.
