Southerner (passenger train)

The Southerner was a named passenger train of the Southern Railway in the United States. The train served the City of New Orleans, Louisiana, Terminal Station, at 1125 Canal Street. The Southerner departed New Orleans daily for New York City.

In 1949, an order for twelve EMD E7's was delivered to Southern Railway for use on its passenger trains.

In 1970, the Southern Railway combined the Crescent with the Southerner to form the Southern Crescent.[1] This train became Amtrak's Crescent on February 1, 1979.
