The southern sawtail catshark, Galeus arae, is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae found only from southern Brazil, at depths down to 430 m. Its length is up to 40 cm.

The southern sawtail catshark inhabits deep reefs in the shelf break, and are often found in depths greater than 400 m, with gorgonians, hard corals, tube sponges, crinoids, ophiuroids, and a great number of the sympatric freckled catshark, Scyliorhinus haeckelii.
