The Eastern Tree Dassie, Eastern Tree Hyrax, Southern Tree Dassie, or Southern Tree Hyrax (Dendrohyrax arboreus) is a species of mammal in the Procaviidae family. It is found in Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montanes, moist savanna, and rocky areas.[2]

The previously recognized Dendrohyrax validus True, 1890 (Schlitter, In Wilson and Reeder 1993), called the Mountain Forest Tree Hyrax, is included in Dendrohyrax arboreus until detailed taxonomic research is conducted (Shoshani, In Wilson and Reeder 2005).
