Southern Spaces

Started in January 2004, Southern Spaces Southern Spaces is a peer-reviewed, online journal exploring the real and imagined places of the American South and their connections with the wider world. The journal works to bring together works from scholars, photographers, and visual artists in such areas as geography, southern studies, regional studies, African American, Native, and American Studies, women's studies, LGBTQ studies, and public health.
Southern Spaces provides a forum for multimedia scholarship by delivering audio, video, interactive imagery, and text while also facilitating innovative ways of organizing, presenting, and updating research.
The journal's Areas of Emphasis include: Arts and Media; Economy and Social Class; Education; Environment; Foodways, Traditions, and Rituals; Gender and Sexuality; Geographies; Health; History; Literature and Language; Music; Politics and Government; Race and Ethnicity; Religion; Social Movements; and Sports and Leisure.
