Southern Savonia

Southern Savonia is a region (maakunta / landskap) in the south-east of Finland. It borders to the regions Northern Savonia, North Karelia, South Karelia, Kymenlaakso, Päijänne Tavastia, and Central Finland.

Southern Savonia is located in the heart of the Finnish lake district, and is perhaps best known for Lake Saimaa. The two major towns in the region are Mikkeli and Savonlinna.
