Southern Baptist Educational Center is a college preparatory school located in Southaven, Mississippi. SBEC was founded by a group of Baptist ministers looking to establish a school in the Whitehaven section of Memphis, Tennessee, in 1972. Programs for kindergarten through Grade 8 began in 1973, and grades 9-12 were added the following year. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. SBEC is also a member of the Association of Christian Schools International, Southern Association of Independent Schools and the College Board.

[edit] Memphis
The 40 acre Memphis campus was utilized from 1974 until 1988, when it was sold to the Memphis City School System.
[edit] Southaven
The school campus relocated to Southaven, Mississippi, a Memphis suburb. The 67 acre campus contains facilities for grades pre-K through 12, and a complete sportsplex. The building contains approximately 100,000 square feet (10,000 m²) of instructional and support space for students. Specifically, the building contains over 40 regular classrooms, 3 computer labs, 4 science labs, a science lecture lab, a library/media center, a cafeteria, a multi-purpose room, and an area of the school designed specifically for the fine arts. The gymnasium contains locker rooms, a fully-furnished weight room, and a wrestling room. The sportsplex contains a football stadium and track, baseball stadium, softball stadium,and a soccer field. In addition, the stadium contains two concessions buildings.
[edit] Fine Arts
The Fine Arts department includes art, music, theatre and performance. They used to be well known for their choir called "Turning Point" which participated in local, state, and regional competitions, where they have received many awards. In recent years participation in the drama department has declined, causing outside assistance from sources such as home-schooling to be sought.

The percussion ensemble is a group of band members consisting of drums, guitars, xylophones, a gong, and etc.
[edit] Trojan Marching Band
The SBEC band is a multi-award winning group of talented musicians that attend SBEC throughout the school year. The group is noted for it's percussion section.

Despite being located in Mississippi, SBEC competes in Division 2, Region A of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA). Other members of their division are:
