The South West Peninsula League is a new league of football clubs in England, which was formed in 2007 from the merger of the Devon County League and the South Western League.

The league consists of a Premier Division of 18 clubs, which is ranked at Step 6 in the National League System, and a Division One East and Division One West, each of which have 16 clubs. These divisions are at Step 7 in the National League System.

Initial allocation of Premier Division places was to the top 7 teams which meet the national criteria for Step 6 in each of the old leagues, plus a possible four teams currently playing in other Step 5 or Step 6 leagues. If any of these last places were not filled, additional places were allocated to teams from the two old leagues that met the Step 6 criteria.

The remaining teams from the old leagues automatically qualified for places in one of the league's Step 7 divisions, and additional teams were recruited from other senior leagues in the area. The South West Peninsula League proposed that it would not recruit any more than 3 teams from any one local league, so as to minimise disruption to those leagues.

The league's principal sponsor is Carlsberg, and the League Cup competition is sponsored by Westward Investment Management, with the cup being named the Carl Throgmorton League Cup.[1]
