South Plainfield High School (or SPHS) is a four-year, co-ed public high school located in South Plainfield, New Jersey, United States. It is the sole high school in the South Plainfield Public Schools. The school encompasses grades 9-12 and has approximately 1,200 students in attendance. The school offers numerous clubs, activities, and athletics.
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,182 students and 91.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 12.9.[1]

[edit] Awards and recognition
In 1996, the New Jersey Department of Education recognized the school with the "Best Practices Award" for its Respect All Races Everywhere (R.A.R.E.) Program in which administrators, staff, and students work together to make cultural and ethnic diversity an instructional theme.
[edit] Athletics
The South Plainfield High School Tigers compete in the Greater Middlesex Conference, comprised of 33 public and private high schools located in the greater Middlesex County area. The league operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.
In 2005, South Plainfield Wrestling and Softball teams won the state championship.
The 2005 softball team won the North II, Group III state sectional championship with a 2-0 victory over Voorhees High School in the tournament final.[2]
From 2005-07,the South Plainfield Wrestling team won the state championship. In 2007, the team tooking the 2007 Central, Group II with a 48-16 win over Raritan High School.[3]. The team then moved on to win the overall Group II State Championship that year with a 58-6 semifinal win against Point Pleasant Boro High School and a 42-9 in the finals vs. Hackettstown High School.[4]
In 2007, the South Plainfield Women's Basketball team was runner-up in the Group 3 State Championship, falling to Willingboro High School 53-46 in the tournament final.[5]
