South Oak Cliff High School (colloquially referred to as SOC, pronounced "sock") is a public secondary school located in Dallas, Texas (USA). South Oak Cliff High School enrolls students in grades 9-12 and is a part of the Dallas Independent School District.

The school serves the area of Dallas known as "South Oak Cliff" (generally east of Interstate 35E and south of Illinois Avenue, though the area was never technically part of Oak Cliff). The school also has some students who live in the former Wilmer-Hutchins ISD boundaries. DISD began to take in WHISD-zoned students during the 2005-2006 school year. The entire Wilmer-Hutchins High School senior class attended South Oak Cliff.

According to the federal No Child Left Behind Act evaluation, the school "did not make adequate yearly progress" in 2004-2005. The state department of education identified this school as "in need of improvement, Year 1" for 2005-2006.

[edit] Sports

South Oak Cliff High School has six Boys Basketball State Championships titles in its history (1977, 1992, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008). The 2005-2006 State Championship was forfeited because an internal investigation concluded that a student-athlete who played on the team should have been academically ineligible. SOC has also made it to the state tournament in 1988,1989(5A), 1991,2003(4A). The Girls Basketball Team has won 3 State Titles(1977,1980,1985)

South Oak Cliff High School lost to Highland Park High School in 2007 in the Regional Semi-Finals in 4A UIL football.

[edit] School uniforms

SOC has chosen to institute mandatory school uniforms consisting of white tops and khaki bottoms.[1]

The Texas Education Agency specified that the parents and/or guardians of students zoned to a school with uniforms may apply for a waiver to opt out of the uniform policy so their children do not have to wear the uniform [1]; parents must specify "bona fide" reasons, such as religious reasons or philosophical objections.

[edit] Feeder patterns

Thornton (PK-5) all feed into Boude Storey Middle School, which is the sole middle school that feeds into South Oak Cliff High School.[8]
