With the support of the school, 800 students demonstrated against the counterfeiting of CDs of Latino music on December 5, 2002.[4]
On 3 November 2005 about 500 students took part in a sit-in to protest at issues including overcrowding and a lack of textbooks.[5]

The South Gate High School Marching Ram Band were presented with a certificate of appreciation, by the city of South Gate, in recognition for their outstanding performances in numerous city events throughout the year.
