[edit] Fireworks in stair well

On 4/16/2008, someone lit an M80 in the stair well at South Elgin. Little is known as of now but the school's website had this important notice: "IMPORTANT MESSAGE ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 2008: This afternoon at approximately 12:30, a single firework was detonated in a stairwell at South Elgin High School. As a result, the school was appropriately evacuated and the fire and police departments responded. No students were seriously injured, though a handful of students were affected by the noise. In addition, Clinton Elementary and Kenyon Woods Middle went into lockdown as a precaution; however, students at those schools were never in jeopardy. The School District will cooperate with the South Elgin Police Department as they investigate this incident. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the District Safety Office." The person responsible for detonating the bomb was later brought into custody by police and charged with several crimes, and is recommended for expulsion from District U-46. Four students received minor injuries and an unknown number of other students received headaches or something similar when an m-80 firecracker was set off in a stairwell next to the commons/ cafeteria.
